“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.”

Kurt Vonnegut

I h̶a̶v̶e̶ (had) a major fear of falling.

I mean mean I was that guy that when they went abseiling, they were the ones shaking… wanting to go last.

It was so funny one time, I got so afraid decending down this cliff that I gripped the rope so hard that my forearm muscles cramped.

I couldn’t go up or down and was stuck.

This really bothered me growing up because it conflicted with some of my biggest dreams.

I dreamt of one day climbing mountains and jumping out of planes.

So I figured that there was only one way to face this fear.

Head on.

I will never forget that feeling of falling out of the plane, 14,000 feet up in the air.

High above the clouds.

Falling through the air.

Incredible.

I mean sky diving is a rush.

But to someone who has a fear of falling?

It was… epic.

The feeling I got when I landed safely was unforgettable.

I had conquered it.

(well mostly).

I needed to something scarier.

That led me to South Africa, the second biggest commercial bunny jump. in the world

Standing on a 216m high bridge, about the jump, thinking… “How the heck did I end up here?”

Again, such an incredible rush but an even more incredible sense of elation because I had grown so much in a few seconds of free fall.

I might as well had grown wings, I felt that good.

Facing ones fears is one of the most satisfying things you will do.

Fear dominates our professional and personal lives and we need to learn how to address it.

You guessed it…

Head on.

I find that when we make this a daily habit the human spirit always discovers a unique way to deal with the situation.

As the above quote suggests, quite literally we learn to grow wings.

So, you’re looking to grow exponentially this year?

Then jump off cliffs.

Those areas in our life where we have no other option but to face our fear head on.

You’ll grow.

You’ll also be scared.

And what is the greatest outcome? You’ll learn to fly.
