Ok, this is going to help a stack of you.
I’ve been reading “Mindset” by Carol Dweck (totally recommended!).
She teaches us that we’ve grown up in a society obsessed with the gifted and talented.
We adore the geniuses. We place them in the lofty echolons of society.
But guess what?
It’s really ridiculous actually.
Often we zoom in on their success yet we are unaware of their years of development and growth to get there.
Actually, the “genius” tag can be a serious threat to real growth.
Real growth is a mindset. It’s not static. IQ tests and entrance exams are all snapshots, not defining numerics of our ability.
This is understood well within the academic community.
But not our culture.
I know many of you have fallen victim to this.
You’re carrying definitions of yourself which were simply measurements of progress at that time in your life.
They are not defining parameters of your future growth.
You are a person only bounded by the mindset you carry.
You can break free from it today. You can chose to grow. You can learn whatever ‘talent’ you wish.
You don’t have to admire the guru’s anymore. Looking at them with wonder and admiration.
Wishing you were like them.
You are… If you wish to be…
Looking forward to seeing you soar.
Because you changed your mind, and embraced who you always have been.
